ONE hundred and twenty three horses are entered for the seven races at the Royal Artillery meeting at Larkhill on Salisbury Plain this Saturday. Proceedings begin at 10.55 am with the King's Troop RHA Members race.

Among the entry of 12 horses - who are more used to pulling 1 tons of gun in their everyday working lives - is Herzagova, who pulled the coffin at the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales. Homfray, however, will be fancied to repeat last season's success. There are eight entries for the Hunt race. Helen Cross's Otago Heights and Sally and Stan Rawlins' Gerry's Pride, second and third in this race last year, could face a strong challenge from Robert Webb-Bowen's Ajar. Several interesting prospects appear in the two Divisions of the Open Maiden race.

In Division 1, Sir Cumference, second at the Army meeting two weeks ago, and Mrs Be may be two to consider.

In Division 2, Thomas The Doubter second at the Army meeting and Trigger Again, runner-up at Barbury Castle last Sunday, could face strong challenges from the Louise Alner-trained Even More and Richard William's debutant Maybe The Business.

There is a high quality entry of 23 for the Mixed Open. Ted Gibbs' Apatura King has won 10 point-to-points and a hunter chase, the John Boulter-trained Yquem has been successful in nine of his 18 races, while Jean Plackett's Belvento is unbeaten in five completed point-to-points.

Ray Geddes' Army winner, Ciara's Prince, Rachel Bartlett's Fair Wind and the David Pipe-trained Zander, winner of two 1997 hurdle races are others to consider.

However, Jill Miller's Miss O'Grady ran a fine race when second to Horus in the Army Land Rover Men's Open and is selected to go one better here.

The 22 entries for the Confined include Daphne Farmer's Prince Sandrovitch, runner-up in the corresponding race last year.

Dido Harding's Man Of Steele is another to consider, but Emma Tory's Spring Marathon, winner at the South Dorset last season, may be the one if opting for this race rather than the Mixed Open. The closing Intermediate has attracted 31 entries and looks a fascinating contest.

The Geoff Cox-trained Belski won over the course last season, while Spread The Word and Rimpton Boy enter calculations after finishing third and fourth in the Army Ladies' Open.

Bill and Angela Dupont's My Clean Sweep missed 2001, but comes into the reckoning if making his reappearance here.

Caroline Mackness' Cotswold-qualified Jimmy Greenspoon, trained by Jelly Nolan and the likely mount of three times National Champion Julian Pritchard, is the selection if travelling down from the Midlands.

The course is found just north-west of Amesbury on Salisbury Plain, easily reached off the A303 or A345. First race is at 10.55am.
