IT HAS been a long slog but the end is finally in sight for a team of amateur builders who have worked tirelessly replacing a worn out pathway.

A team of up to 30 volunteers from various conservation groups have lent a helping hand to the project at Titchfield Common in a bid to complete a 200-metre boardwalk across the picturesque countryside site.

The project has relied on locals giving up their time and so far 80 days' labour has been spent on the much-needed replacement walkway at Kites Croft.

Countryside ranger Pete Potts said: "The former pathway was really worn and in a bad state so we came up with the idea of building the boardwalk.

"The local conservation group Friends of Kites Croft have been fantastic with their support and have given up many hours towards the project that will benefit walkers at Titchfield Common."

With the end almost in sight, the countryside ranger group are calling for more hands to the pump to complete the £7,000 project.

Pete said: "We are almost there but we really need more hands to the pump to get the last part finished, so any more help would be greatly appreciated.

"We work on it on certain days so anyone can come along and lend a hand."

The team will be at the Kite's Croft site again on February 10 from 2pm.
