HARDLEY Runners' vet-50 men just missed a team medal in the South of England Championships at London's Parliament Hills.

The rearranged event, which had to be cancelled in March due to the foot-and-mouth crisis, was incorporated into the London Championships.

Hardley's Malc Renyard settled into the leading six on the first lap and finished strongly to place fourth overall and second vet-55 in 37 minutes and 15 seconds.

Mick Anglim was 24th (39.58) with fit-again Jack Hutchison 45th and Hardley coach Terry Burton 63rd.

Team result: 1 Barnet & District 78, 2 Hercules Wimbledon 104, 3 Serpentine 158, 4 Thames Hare & Hounds 162, 5 Hardley Runners 166, 6 Verlea 211.

Anglim was back in action the following day, clocking Hardley's fastest time of one hour and three seconds in the Hayling 10 Road Race.

Behind him came Rex Moore (1.13), Sue Sleath (1.11), Malcolm Conway (1.18), Linda Compton (1.19), Geoff Harris (1.21), Jan Anglim (1.32) and Chris Harris (1.34).
