EIGHTEEN-YEAR-OLD Daniel Mogridge from Fareham stamped his authority on the penultimate round of the Wessex Division of the NSFA pegged measure & return series held at Hordle where the youngster recorded four fish worth 113 points to beat a star-studded field.

Sport was very patchy with just a few bass, dabs, silver eels, sole and whiting recorded. Mick Goodger from Southampton filled the runner-ups spot after landing four fish worth 106 points.

Sixteen-year-old Lee Cullen from Southampton, who is a member of the Shirley club, came third on the night also with four fish worth 105 points.

Wayne Pidgley from Bournemouth heads the overall leader table with 14 penalty points ahead of Mick Goodger (Southampton) 19, Tony O'Grady (Fareham) 24, Darren Phillips (Fareham) 24, Ian Golds (Portsmouth) 28, Alan Gilbert (Worthing) 30 points.

Fourteen-year-old Sam Deathe from Southampton was certainly all smiles after picking up the £50 junior prize during the Denning's Open held along the Ferry bridge Section of Chesil.

Young Deathe even had a bigger grin when he realised that he had beaten his dad, former England international Steve Deathe by a few ounces. The youngster caught 31 garfish while float fishing, which nudged the scales down to 19lb to finish in tenth position overall. His dad came 11th with 18lb 10oz. Lee Cullen from Southampton came ninth with 19lb 8oz while Reg Clough from East Woodyeates was eighth with 15 triggerfish weighing 21lb 1oz.

Local rod Josh Simmonds won the event which attracted 71 competitors with 81 garfish weighing 49lb 8oz.

The best specimen was a 2lb 3oz black bream apprehended by Jay Dando while the heaviest fish, a 3lb 3oz wrasse was caught by Alan Jones, the match also produced a number of dogfish, red gurnard, streaked gurnard and scad.
