THOUSANDS of Islanders and visitors descended yesterday for the annual climax to Skandia Life Cowes Week - the spectacular fireworks display.
Spectators lined Cowes seafront from as far as Egypt Point into the town to view the display, which lasted about 25 minutes.
People also packed the seafront across the River Medina at East Cowes and many others saw the fireworks from their yachts and cruisers moored not far from the launch barge for the display.
The skies were reasonably clear for the event, although rain did briefly threaten at the start.
Traders reported a business bonanza, with pubs and fast-food takeaways packed throughout the evening.
Traffic in and out of Cowes was controlled by large numbers of Island police and some extra officers drafted in from the mainland.
Although the fireworks signalled the close of another successful event, in a week the town will again be invaded - by visitors for the America's Cup 150th anniversary celebrations.
