A FAMILY suffered shock after a car smashed through their garden wall and shunted their parked car.

The driver of a Mercedes was treated at the scene and taken home after he lost control of his car and crashed it through the 3ft high wall of the house on Church Road, Locks Heath, on Tuesday night.

The Mercedes then ploughed into the family car on the drive.

The parents and children ran out when they heard the crash and were shocked to see the damage.

Leading firefighter Tim Burgess said: "We don't know what happened, but it looked as if the driver lost control and left the road to crash through the garden wall and hit the parked car. The Mercedes had lost most of its momentum and did not push the householders' car very far.

"The Mercedes had extensive front- end damage, but the parked car was not badly damaged and the driver was mostly just shocked.''

A fire crew cleared debris from the road.
