SISTERS Pat Rye and Val Cooper are Hampshire's over-55 pairs champions.

In the final at Cove, the Lockswood duo outgunned Hannah Burden and Doreen Oakes (Kingsclere) 21-9 and now face the Worcestershire winners in the national championships which has its finals at Coventry on September 15-16.

The semi-final saw Rye and Cooper beat Annie Biggs and Marianne Unwin (Milton Park) 27-11 while Burden and Oakes were accounting for Monica Niemier and Jean Cumming (Richmond Park) 27-17.

Esso's Jackie Mainwaring fell 21-17 in the over-55 singles to Pam Harrison, the Bournemouth bowler going on to win the county title 21-13 against Doreen Atkins (Alton Social). Atkins had defeated Beryl Blacklin (Hayling Island) 21-10 in her semi-final.

Stung by a 17-shot defeat last year, the men of the Hampshire CBA were intent on revenge when they met the county women's association for their annual friendly at Pirrie Park. And fielding a stronger team this time the chaps achieved their aim winning 137-110.
