HANSFORDS' Chalkie White won the fifth round of The Nigel Turner/ Thompsons Sunday Series on Longbridge in tremendous style with a massive 124lb 4oz of carp.

White also broke his own record for the biggest carp ever in a match on Longbridge with a magnificent 21lb ghostie.

He had held the previous record for the biggest carp in a match at 20lb 10oz which he caught six months ago in a winter series match.

On a day of phenomenal weights, White caught steadily all day on peg 30 fishing waggler, band and pellet at 18 inches fished over loose fed pellet to land 18 carp including the 21lb and several other doubles.

The victory takes White through to the final on Longbridge in September where the winner will walk away with a cool £500.

Paul Shepherd (Thatch-ams) finished second on peg 23 with 106lb 6oz of carp, all taken at range on the method feeder and maggot, with only one fish in the last hour stopping him getting closer to the winner.

Qualifying is the name of the game, and Shepherd moves into the final.

Homestore Selects' Ray Hayward is always a very difficult angler to beat on Longbridge, and Hayward turned in a vintage performance from unfancied peg 9 to take 92lb 5oz of carp to the scales taken on the pole and pellet fished shallow.

Carbotech's Lee Wood-house placed fourth with a mixed carp and silver fish bag of 67lb 10oz taken on a combination of feeder and pole tactics.

In the league points table, Ray Hayward has shot clear of his field with five good points scored out of five with 212 points from a 250 maximum.

However Mickey Dean with 174 points from four matches, Steve Pomery (Poingdestres) with 162 points from four and Lee Woodhouse (Carbotech) 162 from four are still within striking distance.
