The Eastleigh 10K Road Race is set to benefit from the foot and mouth crisis.
Unlike some other country-based road running events, the B&Q-sponsored race, which takes place on Sunday, March 18, is certain of going ahead.
In fact organisers have been unundated with enquiries this week from runners desperate to get a race under their belts - the closing date for entries is next Wednesday, March 7.
A spokesman for Eastleigh Borough Council said: "While a lot of races in semi-rural locations are being cancelled, ours is definitely going ahead. Fortunately for us there is no rural element to our race whatsoever. It is run entirely round the streets of Eastleigh."
One race that has already been affected is this Sunday's Wimborne 10-mile event which has been postponed until later this year for fear of spreading the epidemic.
