Fareham will have to win all their remaining South Premier League matches if they are to stand any realistic chance of reaching the end-of-season play-offs.
They lost further ground after a disappointing 2-2 draw with lowly High Wycombe.
Fareham are now five points adrift of leaders Beckenham, who thrashed City of Portsmouth 5-2.
But they are in danger of slipping well behind favourites Maidenhead, who have three matches in hand.
Fareham needed a late goal by Tim Stainer to secure a draw with High Wycombe, who have registered only one win in 14 matches so far.
Ironically, Fareham scored first through Jim Moseley, but immediately after half-time found themselves 2-1 down.
"We bombarded them after Tim got the equalising goal, but couldn't break through again.
"But overall we were disappointing and have made life very difficult indeed for ourselves," reflected Fareham coach Steve Godwin.
