A CENTRE to help Southampton's jobless people back to work has clocked up more than 1,000 visitors in just six months.

Since it opened last July, the Employment Access Centre on Bernard Street, has seen hundreds of people, aged 16 to 25, use its free computers, Internet, fax and photocopier to compile CVs, letters and job applications.

The centre, operated by South-ampton and Forest Headstart, also has an extensive resource library of local training courses and career opportunities.

It has recently recruited two officers to assist women, lone parents and ethnic minorities to find work, further education and training.

It is backed by the Southampton Regeneration Partnership, which provides much needed government funds for voluntary sector projects.
