PLANS to build a five-storey block of flats in the heart of Winchester's conservation area have been put off so that English Heritage can be consulted.
A site in Southgate Street, Winchester, has been earmarked for the development of seven two and three-bedroom flats.
But, if the development gets the go-ahead, it would be in the face of opposition from residents.
Winchester conservation architect, Huw Thomas has also called the original design "alien" and objected to the council. He said: "We are waiting with bated breath for a solution which we hope will be sensitive, both to Winchester and to the conservation area."
The council has received 25 objections to the plan, including many from members of the St Thomas's Street Residents' Association.
