ORGANISERS of King's Somborne's summer carnival say they're determined not to lose the event because of a lack of support and enthusiasm from residents.

Joint secretary of the carnival committee, Cathy Newell, says it will be sad if the carnival is scrapped because of little help and interest.

"It's getting steadily worse as the years go by," says Cathy. "Ironically, we're not lacking in support on the day as hundreds turn out for it, but trying to get help throughout the year is proving very difficult."

Last year's event raised £2,000 which was divided between the village hall, and 14 other organisations from Upper Somborne, Little Somborne, King's Somborne and Ashley. They were given a share of £1,000, and although Cathy says the committee is more than willing to help them, it would be nice to have some input. She feels new people in the area may think they're not able to come forward and offer assistance or they have other commitments and she's urging them to re-think.

"We desperately need new ideas and suggestions and I really do hope we can get more people interested," she says.

For anyone who would like to show their support there is a carnival meeting on Wednesday at 8pm in the village hall.
