THE MYSTERIOUS world of cats is being uncovered at Southampton University.
Veterinary behaviourist Rachel Casey has been given £250,000 towards a unique five-year research project into cat behaviour and welfare.
The scheme has been funded by national charity Cats Protection, which hopes it will help improve people's understanding of felines.
Rachel, 32, who has appeared on TV's Barking Mad and Pet Rescue, has already researched the reasons for cat stress for the charity before.
She has also played a leading role in highlighting the psychological health benefits in owning cats. She said: "Cats are absolutely fascinating creatures, and very little is currently known about why they behave as they do.
"I will also be able to promote a greater understanding of cat behaviour both to cat owners and the veterinary profession."
