MODERN dance and a sense of humour go together about as well as oil and water.

But the youthful Dansconnect promise a more light-hearted alternative to the arty, over-earnest shape-throwing of most "cutting-edge" dance groups when they bring their inspired new show to three local arts centres from next month.

Dansconnect will be bringing their latest work, commissioned by arts centre consortium Andco, to Forest Arts Centre, Havant Arts Centre and The Point, Eastleigh from February 9.

The show is made up of four distinct pieces, all allegedly "inspired by modern living" and designed to be accessible to all.

Office Practice, choreographed by Scott Ambler, draws its inspiration from the 11am break Diet Coke ad and offers a quirky view of a day in the office. The piece features Latin American music from the film Kika.

The next piece, The Connectors, revolves around characters called Venus and Stevey, who take the audience on a comic book-style adventure featuring bank raids, exotic temptresses and fiendish, Kung Fu-fighting villains.

Choreographed by Banksy, who recently featured on the Richard Blackwood Show and the BBC programme Travels with My Tutu, this one clearly owes a debt to the likes of James Bond and The Avengers.

The set is completed by Chatter Box, an ironic take on modern communication methods, and The Blues are the Same, inspired by the music of cult folk hero Nick Drake. Dansconnect are at Forest Arts Centre on February 9, Havant Arts Centre on February 15 and The Point, Eastleigh, on March 1.
