BROCKENHURST have underlined their ambition by adding former Hereford, Torquay and AFC Bournemouth defender Dave Morris to their blossoming squad.

The 29-year-old former Bashley skipper has moved back to the New Forest from Dr Martens Eastern Division outfit St Leonards, convinced that Brock are geared up to go forward.

"Dave didn't really want to step down to the Jewson Wessex League but he's done so on the understanding that the club is showing commitment and wants to win things," said Brock's assistant boss Chris Collinge.

"We've been speaking to him for three or four months now and we're delighted to have someone of his stature joining the club. He's got Football League experience and is one of the best sweepers in the area.

"He has signed until the end of the season but we are hoping to make it longer term."

Bournemouth-based Morris is primed to make his debut, along with Lymington & New Milton capture Paul Sims, in tonight's JWL clash at Blackfield & Langley.

League leaders Andover - in action at BAT tonight - have re-signed prolific marksman Paul Odey from AFC Newbury.

Odey, who sits fifth on the Lions all-time leading scorers' list, could team up with Andy Forbes who made club history last season with 84 goals. The good news for BAT's defence is that 21-goal Vince Rusher is out tonight because of work commitments.

Andover, three points clear at the top, are now hot favourites for promotion to the Dr Martens League following Lymington & New Milton's bombshell news that they have withdrawn their application for Eastern Division football.

Newport boss Tony Mount is refusing to throw the towel in on DML Eastern Division promotion ahead of tonight's of Langney Sports (7.45pm).

A waterlogged pitch at Witney on Saturday took the Islanders' list of postponements to 13 for the season, leaving them eighth in the table - 21 points adrift of leaders Chelmsford with six games in hand.

But Mount insisted: "It's a tall order, but Chelmsford lost on Saturday and Tonbridge drew, so that gives us hope. We can still do it if we get some luck and steer clear of injuries and suspensions."

Fit-again Steve Watt and Steve Moss return tonight, but Steve Riley and Dave Wilson are away with the Combined Services, Adam Holbrook is suspended and Fraser Quirke and Karl Lis are still injured.

Steve Jones maintained his happy scoring habit as Totton strengthened their grip on fourth spot in the Jewson Wessex League with a 1-0 win at rock-bottom Portsmouth RN last night. Jones struck with an 88th-minute header from James Sherrington's cross to make it seven goals in three games since returning to the side.
