Southampton ladies' second team were beaten by a late Trojans goal in their local derby.

Trojans started with some neat passing hockey but failed to penetrate consistently enough to produce a good scoring chance.

Southampton worked themselves back into the game but also failed to create that vital opportunity.

Southampton looked the more likely to break the deadlock in the second half. But, with three minutes remaining, a Trojans break down the left saw the ball crossed and a deflected touch from Ross Bray spun against the keeper's foot and into the net.

The thirds were drawing 0 - 0 with City of Portsmouth seconds when goalkeeper Charlotte Page was forced to do the splits to save a shot from a City striker. It brought the Southampton team to life as they rifled home a succession of second-half goals through Clare Butcher (2), Sarah Deighton, Emma White and Suzanne Quinton for a 5-0 victory. The result keeps Southampton in second spot in the league.

Southampton fourths widened the gap at the top of Hampshire League division 4 with a 3-1 win over Fordingbridge I.

Alex Williams, making amends for a missed penalty, opened the scoring before Fordingbridge pulled it back to 1-1. Fifteen-year-old Sophie Mitchell restored the lead before Lyn Price sealed the game at 3-1.

The fifths went one down to Petersfield despite having the better of the early game. But Anna Skelton zipped into gear to deliver a four-goal salvo and Fiona Dalrymple added one for a 5-1 scoreline.
