MOST of the games in the Peter Houseman Youth League fell victim to the weather, with all fixtures at Under 17 and Under 16 called off.

At Under 13, RPM finished 5-0 winners in their local derby against Andover United. United's close passing and control came unstuck against a well organised and pacy RPM side.

Kriss Machin pulled off some superb saves to keep the score down, but the RPM forwards were always to hard to handle.

Michael Sadler played a magnificent captain's game for Andover United, spraying quality passes around the midfield and linking up well with his forwards.

Apart from some close skilled trickery down the right flank from Marcus Hellawell, Andover United were restricted to a few efforts on the well protected RPM goal. Man of the match Liam Edwards scored four of the goals and new boy Jack Bernard got the other.

Machin's goalkeeping prowess has attracted the attention of a few senior clubs and United manager Dave Jordan thinks he has the potential to succeed at the higher levels.

At Under 12, Graham Chapman's RPM team came out fighting from the start in their fixture against Oakley and within 10 minutes Luke Andrews had scored.

The first half gave the MacDonald's sponsored side some excellent chances, but due to some good sure saves from Oakley's keeper, RPM were denied another goal and Oakley equalised with a lucky goal just before half-time.

The second half saw Oakley score again within a few minutes leaving RPM battling to equalise. RPM fought hard with some excellent shots and great passes from man of the match Kris Holden.

In the final minutes of the game RPM were awarded a penalty and Josh Wilson hit the equaliser home, leaving the final score at 2-2.

In division one at Under 11 AFC Newbury 'C' secured a tough win in muddy conditions over Andover United.

In an evenly contested first half, Andover took the lead on 10 minutes from the penalty spot and Newbury levelled the score on 20 minutes when David Varley's close range effort just crossed the line.

The second half continued much the same as the first, with both teams having scoring chances. Newbury took the lead after 10 minutes thanks to man of the match David Varley's second goal of the game, and Andover drew level after 15 minutes with a well worked goal.

But two minutes later Newbury were back in front after a good run and finish by Matthew Bullock and then held out to collect the points.

At Under 10, New Street beat Basingstoke Colts 10-6 with a hat trick from Mathew Scott, two goals from Dan Boyes and Ben Charlesworth and one each for Tom Appleton, Sam Appleton and George Corden.

The tough conditions didn't bother Biotec sponsored New Street as they eased their way to victory. Some brilliant goalkeeping from the Colts prevented New Street going further ahead with great performances from Dan Stead and Paul Szekeres, while Dan Boyes and George Corden picked up man of the match awards.

At Under nine, Upper Clatford won 4-0 against South Wonston. Right from the kick off Upper Clatford put South Wonston under pressure and Robert 'Lineker' Lawman opened the scoring for Clatford with one of his customary close range efforts after five minutes.

Although South Wonston fought hard to try and even the game it was Clatford's man of the match Joel Batchem who was next on the score sheet following a corner, to give Clatford a 2-0 lead at half time.

The second half followed exactly the same pattern as the first, with Clatford keeping South Wonston pinned back in their own half for the majority of the time, although South Wonston looked dangerous on the break.

Clatford's Norwegian striker Nikolai Utne made it 3-0 after running onto a through ball from Ben Jackson and Alex Dockree rounded off the scoring five minutes from the end when he finished off a excellent run on the left wing to cut inside and fire home from close range.

Both teams deserve credit for their performances in producing a typically exciting cup tie which was an excellent match to watch.
