THE cream of British taekwondo will be in Eastleigh this weekend as the preliminary selection for the Great Britain national team is held at Fleming Park Leisure Centre.
Starting at 9am in three rings the competition is open to all athletes in Great Britain for both the junior and senior teams with selectors looking ahead to the Commonwealth Games in 2002 and at the Olympic Games 2004.
The hopeful athletes from the Hampshire area are - Junior Players: Jemma Johnson (Southampton) competing for the first time at selections, Michael Powell (Southampton) also a first time, Jonathan Parmec (Southampton) first time, Katie Powell (Southampton) seeded 3, Aneaka Reay (Andover) seeded 1, Michael Andreou (Southampton)
Senior Players: Gareth Brown (Southampton) seeded 1, Scott Bowers (Southampton) seeded 1, Paul Rhymes (Portsmouth), Sarah Lamb (Southampton) competing as a senior for the first time, Des Day (Southampton)
