Four Mid Hants players have been called up to the England squad for the European Championships.

All four girls play their netball at Weston Park. Nicky Jordan has been picked for the Open squad, while Gemma Cornwall and Hayley Costick have been selected for the under-19s.

Megan Freeman will have the chance of representing her country in the under-17 age group.

Mid Hants' first team were edged out 53-51 in a south coast derby with Sussex.

The match at Millbrook School was a tight contest with wing defence Lorna Brown dominating and goal attack Michelle Andrews having a good game up front.

However, Mid Hants had great difficulty in defending Sussex's tall Goal Shooter, R Ockacha who was outstanding.

* The second team were convincing 51-21 winners, with L Cooper the player of the match.

Other results: Under-18s lost 26-28, Under-16As won 39-21, Under-16Bs won 34-25, Under-14s won 47-24.

* Applemore finished runner-up at the Abbey tournament in Oxford last Sunday.

Teams from the Midlands and the South of England took part, providing strong competition, and Applemore won their section, beat Tongham 10-8 in the semi-final.

However, they were pipped by Clan in the final.
