THIEVES who ransacked a house to steal a collection of German beer mugs, jewellery and an antique table stole the household car to transport them.

The brazen intruders broke into the house on Foster Road, Gosport, between 9am and 11.30am on Tuesday and took the pottery litre mugs and a coffee table with an onyx top with gold scroll legs away in a car.

Inspector Kirsty Blaylock, of Gosport police, said: "The burglar or burglars made a search of the entire house, before taking a large quantity of collectable German beer mugs and jewellery and a table.

"They then had a problem about how to get away with all the items, so they stole the car belonging to the household."

A man aged 17 to 25 was seen standing on the driveway. He is described as 5ft 10in tall and was wearing a beige or light-coloured baseball cap with a motif on the front, blue jeans and a waist-length dark jacket.

The stolen car was a red 1600 diesel Ford Fiesta registration E342 BTA.
