LYMINGTON police are investigating a spate of fuel-line slashing in one small New Forest cul-de-sac.

Four vehicles parked along Joys Lane, Norley Wood had their petrol pipes cut on the same night, and fuel stolen to a total value of nearly £100.

In one case the theft attempt failed and the offenders left the driveway flooded with several gallons of petrol.

Police took away for forensic analysis a section of cut pipe and plastic straws found near the cars.

Local officer Pc Martin Salter said: "Ten years ago we came across petrol siphoning quite often, but in recent years it has become less common. "It is an offence which could have very dangerous consequences."
