MEMORIES in words and pictures of some of Southampton's Asian women go on show at the Clovelly Centre in Nicholstown next Wednesday.
The exhibition, called Yaaden, which means "memories" in Hindi and Urdu, illustrates the thoughts of women attending the centre and explores their feelings on life before and after coming to England. Recorded discussions on the themes of childhood, marriage, immigration, living in Southampton, food, clothing and health care have formed the inspiration for a series of photos accompanying the display.
Cynara Davies, of the Com-munity Culture Unit, said the project played a valuable role in recording the city's culture.
"This fascinating exhibition documents the real-life experiences of many local women through photographic images and in their own words.
"As well as providing an insight into the diverse experiences of the participants, the material collected as part of the Yaaden project will be added to the oral history archive - a collection of life stories of Southampton people."
Organised by Southampton City Council cultural services and the Workers' Education Association, the project, funded through the regeneration project, will be on permanent display at the centre.
