IT IS back. After a three-week break flooding returned last night to plague Hampshire.
Firefighters dealt with 11 calls as heavy rainfall saw water enter buildings in the Alresford, Alton, Lower Froyle, Beech, Fleet and Long Sutton areas.
The Environment Agency said the groundwater levels were very high across the catchment area of the Rivers Test, Itchen, Meon, Wallington and Anton.
Agency water resources manager Rod Murchiesaid typical winter rains could herald the return of the widespread flooding of December.
The current situation at five boreholes is: Preston Candover, top of the Itchen catchment, very high and stable; West Meon, top of the Meon catchment, receding slowly from a high level; Lopcombe Corner, Test catchment, receding but levelling off; Broadhalfpenny Down, provides warnings for Hambledon, very responsive to heavy rain; Clanville Lodge, near Andover, Anton/Test catchment, high and stable.
