MORE youngsters are using Hedge End Youth Town Council as a platform to have a say on events and facilities they would like to see provided, senior town councillors have been told.

The encouraging surge of youngsters with bright ideas has been put down to the area's outreach youth workers.

Speaking at Hedge End Town Council's January meeting, June Watson told colleagues: "We were delighted to see an influx of many new youngsters. They were very interested in the projects and had various ideas."

The youth town council has a 2000 Centre party lined up for Feb-ruary 10 for seven to nine-year-olds, with the older youngsters interested in staging concerts.

Mrs Watson added: "They are not very demanding about what they want - they just want music and some refreshments."

She also reported that interest had been expressed in resurrecting excursions for Hedge End's young people with some being very keen to set up a skating park.

Mrs Watson told colleagues: "We have to find somewhere to put it."

"I think it was an extremely successful meeting.

"We are hoping that they will come again to the next meeting on February 5."

Town clerk Vivienne Brooks told senior councillors: "They were overwhelmingly pleased because they hadn't realised that there was someone who would listen to them."
