GB Airways, the rapidly expanding sister company of Southampton-based Cadogan Travel, has won praise for its punctuality performance from a consumer watchdog organisation.

The Gatwick-based airline, a franchise partner of British Airways, was highlighted by Holiday Which? as a top performer when it looked back on 2000.

A spokesman for Holiday Which? said: "Holidaymakers have experienced another miserable summer of delays which appear to be getting worse.

"While some airline performed well, such as GB Airways, British Airways and Go, others have subjected their passengers to unacceptable delays.''

GB Airways, which was awarded the Queen's Award for International Trade last year, operates to 17 destinations in Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Gibraltar, Malta, France and Tunisia.

George Mitchell, head of consumer services at GB Airways, said: "Our success has been based on setting ourselves realistic timetables.

"We do not give our passengers expectations we cannot keep. Last summer, we operated more than 280 flights very week and this is a testament to the hard work of all our staff.

"To achieve such a high standards of punctuality deserves some genuine recognition.''
