GOLFING pub teams from Hampshire will be among those across Britain invited to tee off in one of the UK's biggest amateur golfing tournaments.

Bass Ale, together with pub trade newspaper The Publican, are staging the four-man team event for which a pub can enter a first stage of area heats to be played in March.

The competition climaxes with an all-expenses paid national final in Vilamoura, Portugal in June.

Entry forms for the tournament organisers on 01458 241778.

* Hampshire's top over-50 golfer Peter Dawson welcomed the introduction of a new event on the European seniors Tour - the Wales Seniors Open at Royal St David's, Harlech from June 8-10.

Former Ryder Cup left-hander Dawson, from the South Winchester Club, is now a major British player on the Seniors Tour after a top 20 finish last year.

The new tournament is part of Wales's bid to stage the 2009 Ryder Cup.

* Outgoing Chilworth captain Tony Defelice left a handsome legacy when he handed over to Owen Polden.

Defelice chose the National Schizophrenia Fellowship for his chosen charity last year and raised an impressive £2000.

* Neil Hallam-Jones (Barton-on-Sea) and Pat Clash (Lee-on-the-Solent) are two of four British club representatives invited to attend the World Golf Management Conference in San Diego next week.

* Mike Kirby from the Hayling Club has been chosen to represent an English Seniors Select team in an international tournament in South Africa from February 1.

The tour will include three matches against a South African team.
