Sian Porter is stunningly emulating her big brother out on the golf course.

While England international David Porter was hoovering up the nation's main under 18 trophies in 1999, Sian was swinging a golf club for the very first time. Now, at just 12 years old, the young lady from Lordshill in Southampton has broken in the Hampshire shadow squad.

Sian is expected to play some friendlies for the Hampshire seconds early in the spring, and if she continues her current meteoric rise up the handicapping system, could be on the edge of main squad in 2002.

Her handicap has come tumbling down from 16 to seven in under a year.

The girl from the Wellow Club, described by top coach and Sky Television's David Barter as one of the most naturally talented young players he has seen, will soon be pressing her claims for the county junior title in the spring.
