RUPERT LOWE has slapped down Brescia who have made a tentative and cheeky enquiry for in-form striker James Beattie.

The Italian side, who have missed out on Tottenham's Les Ferdinand, were reported to have tabled a £2 million offer but the Southampton chairman said: "They did ring up but that was all.

"It sounds to me like an agent trying to stir up some interest but he is not going anywhere so they can forget it.

"He is one of the players we are in the process of negotiating a new contract with and we want to keep him."

Tonight's scheduled reserve game at home to West Ham has been put back until March 26 because the Londoners have a televised Premiership game against Charlton tonight.
