JOYRIDERS stole a motorbike and a scooter from outside two houses in Gosport in the latest spate of two-wheeled thefts.

The black Vespa and the Honda 550 CBX were chained up on Mariners Way and Santiago Road, respectively, on Friday night.

Thieves sawed through padlocks, hot-wire started the machines and drove them away.

Inspector Tony Tipping, of Gosport police, said: "We've had a lot of mopeds and scooters stolen recently. The thieves usually steal them for riding round town just for fun.

"They don't pick the high value ones, usually those that are easiest to steal, even though these latest were secured."
