Bourne Valley Riding Club claimed victory at the Kbis Equine Insurance hunter trial qualifiers in the senior novice and senior open classes.

The senior novice team beat off stiff opposition to qualify for the final.

All four team members compete regularly for the club. Suzanne Cawley on General and Kay Bugden on Lady Guinevere competed at the National Horse Trials Championship earlier in the year. The other team members were Veronica Wallace on Rhys and Louise Du Boulay riding A J Knapp.

Although the team members did not feature in the individual honours Bourne Valley's Mandy Attkinson-Willes riding Julie Newman's Tilly was equal second.

"Mandy has not competed for the club recently and so we were thrilled that she did so well especially as Tilly is a senior citizen at the age of 26 and the going was very wet and holding in places," says Samantha Mawer, team manager.

The individual winner was Rebecca Moore of Hampshire Rural.

The senior open had fewer entries partly due to the ground conditions on a very wet day. The winning Bourne Valley team included Susie Pool on Hot Socks who had not long been back from her honeymoon, Charlotte Ainsworth on Victor, Diana Burgess on Desert Way and Alison Underhill on Jesters Jokebox, In the individual competition Susie was third and Charlotte was fourth. The winner was Mark Riley from the Meon Riding Club.

The Kbis Insurance Festival of the Hunter Championship will take place at Grange Farm, Wittering, near Wansford on May 13.
