MIKE GOLDING is up into tenth position in the Vendee Globe and, despite unpleasant weather conditions with poor visibility, is making good the time lost at the start of the race in November.
Achieving better speeds than his nearest rivals, the Southampton yachtsman was around two knots faster than Gallay, Carpentier and Hall, and closing on them all the time despite his disastrous start to the race, when a dismasting forced him to restart eight days and four hours behind the rest of the fleet.
"All is well on board and we are making good time," he reported from his boat Team Group 4.
"Considering all the problems the boat, sails, rigging, etc has stood up pretty well.
"The mast looks pretty good. I will need to do some more tweaking with the rig when I reach the Atlantic, but so far, so good, it all seems to be hanging together".
