A SECRETARY who was asked by her boss to sit opposite him in a meeting so he could look up her skirt has won more than £2,000 compensation.

Lesley Moir quit her job in disgust after sales manager Chris Graham then produced an 18-inch long tube and made a suggestive remark.

Her boss was also alleged to have remarked "stay there, I think my luck has changed" when he caught a receptionist leaning over.

Mrs Moir, a 39-year-old mother-of-three, said she felt it "unbearable" to work with 46-year-old Mr Graham again and resigned from her £12,000-a-year job. She sued employers Clarke Instruments Ltd, based in Salisbury, and won her case for sexual discrimination at an employment tribunal which was held in Southampton.

Mrs Moir, from Salisbury, said: "All his comments were made out of the blue and there was nothing said or done to lead up to them.''

The tribunal heard Mr Graham was at first suspended pending an investigation but was reinstated days later after he admitted making the remarks and offered to apologise.

But Mrs Moir said: "I felt by staying there I was condoning what had happened and handed in my resignation." She was awarded £2,100 compensation for injury to her feelings by the tribunal panel.

On giving his ruling, tribunal chairman Raymond Trickey said: "Mrs Moir was upset by the action on the part of Mr Graham because he was her line manager.

"She was assured protection after she made the allegations yet Mr Graham's suspension was revoked and he was allowed to return to work which I can see caused stress to Mrs Moir."
