A Winchester man heading for a rally in Monte Carlo in his vintage MG crashed on a bend a couple of miles from his home.
The 1,000-mile trip ended just a few moments after it began when the classic car skidded off the road and ended up in a ditch.
The driver - in his 30s - who has not been named, was trapped in the car for abut 30 minutes after it landed on its side by the Morestead Road near Winchester at 8.10am on Sunday.
He suffered abdominal injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Royal Hampshire County Hospital.
A passenger suffered less serious injuries.
Two crews from Winchester fire station attended the incident.
