ARMED with clipboards, a battalion of young researchers will invade Eastleigh town centre on Wednesday.

The aim of their mission will be to lay the tracks for making the town a more travel-friendly place.

The council's transport planners have enlisted Year ten and 11 students from Eastleigh's Crestwood School to help carry out a survey of staff working in town centre shops and offices.

Facts gathered will provide background details of the journeys people take to and from work, difficulties they en-counter, and the practicalities of travel without using the car.

Alternatives modes of transport are coming under the splotlight as planners try to steer the town away from becoming traffic clogged.
