The Point, Eastleigh, January 17-20

Cinderella with a twist is what's promised in this version of one of the world's best-loved fairytales.

Long-established Southam-pton amateur dramatics society, Westfield Productions, deliver all the traditional pantomime fun and games with their own additions to the plot and the script.

"We have all the favourites," says Robert Lock, co-writer and producer of the show, "but have added new twists and a couple of different characters."

The beautiful heroine will be there with her dreams and hopes, and she'll be joined by Buttons who will be helping to teach the ugly sisters, Begonia and Lobelia, a lesson or two.

Robert and his brother Mark describe this brand new version as "a toe-tapping family extravaganza".

"The music is first class and we have magic and comedy by the bucket load," says Robert.

Westfield Productions has been around since 1938 putting on shows and pantos including Red Riding Hood, Pinocchio, The Sleeping Beauty and Jack and the Beanstalk. Last year saw it successfully stage its Millennium pantomime called Old Father Time, written by Doreen Moger.

Each May the company presents summer variety shows which take in every style from country to disco and Gershwin to Porter. Last summer they performed Quantum Leap: 1,000 Years of History which was an entertaining history lesson featuring momentous events such as the Great Fire of London, the invention of the steam train and the Apollo moon landing. This is the company's fourth pantomime at The Point in Eastleigh and it promises to be just as colourful as their other productions.

Cinders is on at The Point from next Wednesday to Saturday, for tickets and information call the box office on 023 8065 2333.
