A MAN who attacked an ambulance paramedic trying to treat him had drank so much at a Christmas party he could not remember what happened.

Anton Eaton narrowly avoided a prison sentence when he pleaded guilty to battery after head-butting and punching Fareham paramedic Robert Isherwood.

He was given a 100-hour community service order and told to pay £200 compensation to Mr Isherwood by Fareham magistrates yesterday.

Speaking to the Daily Echo, 26-year-old Eaton said all he could do was apologise for the actions he deeply regretted.

Magistrates heard paramedics and police were called to Eaton's Broadsands Drive home in Gosport last month after reports of a possible domestic incident.

Prosecutor Andrea Hills said Mr Isherwood and a colleague arrived to find Eaton lying unconscious with his arm bleeding after putting his hand through a glass door panel.

Eaton swore at the paramedics before head-butting and then punching Mr Isherwood.

The ambulance technician needed to go to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham, Portsmouth, and was left with bruising and a swelling on his forehead.
