BURGLARS in the New Forest targeted the home of the Official Verderer, Maldwin Drummond.
They made an unsuccessful attempt to break into his home at Cadland House, in Stanswood Road, Fawley.
A police spokesman said Mr Drummond was woken at 1.30am on Wednesday by a loud clicking noise.
"He went downstairs the following morning and discovered that someone had tried to break in through the patio doors," said the spokesman.
