POMPEY skipper Darren Moore will be sweating over whether he will be recalled to the Blues' starting line-up tomorrow.

The 26-year-old Jamaican international was forced to watch most of last weekend's 2-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest from the substitute's bench.

Player-boss Steve Claridge chose to play a tactical gamble by opting for a fast three-man defence consisting of Justin Edinburgh, Scott Hiley and Jason Crowe.

Moore replaced Edinburgh as a second half substitute at Forest, and now with the visit of in-form Huddersfield to Fratton Park tomorrow, Claridge has a selection dilemma.

The Birmingham-born defender is not bothered by being dropped - the first time he has not been in the starting line up when fully fit since making the £500,000 switch from Bradford City a year ago.

He said: "Looking at the game, I would say that the gaffer's decision was right because Forest didn't create a lot of chances. One thing at this club is that no-one is guaranteed a spot week in week out.

"That's how it should be. You expect fierce competition."

Tomorrow, Moore could come up against a buoyant Huddersfield down who climbed off the bottom of Division One in midweek with a 3-1 win at Nottingham Forest.

Two goals from Kevin Gallen and a third in two matches for on-loan striker Peter Ndlovu saw the Terriers chalk up a third successive win.

Claridge is hoping that defender Linvoy Primus will be fit again for his first start since featuring at Fulham last month. Shaun Derry is in the squad - he doesn't start his three-match ban until next Saturday.

Meanwhile, on-loan defender Adrian Whitbread could make a permanent move to Luton Town.

Whitbread was told last month that he no longer had a future at Fratton Park, six seasons after joining the club in a £650,000 deal from West Ham.

Whitbread said: "We are second from bottom in the division, but I have seen enough to think that we really should not be down there.

"I am hoping that I can extend my contract by another month, and after the second month it will be clear in which direction the club is going."

Out-of-favour goalkeeper Andy Petterson could be joining Cardiff City on loan.

The 31-year-old has slipped down the pecking order behind Russell Hoult and Aaron Flahavan.

The Welsh side are interesting in a loan deal, and Claridge said: "Andy needs to start playing again and get himself sorted out. We'll do what we can to help him."

One player seemingly on his way is Slovenian international Mladen Rudonja, who has been told he can leave Fratton Park.

The 29-year-old midfielder, who played in Euro 2000, has started just two matches since he signed from Belgian side St Truiden for £200,000 in the summer, but he has failed to complete either game.

He has never recovered from breaking his jaw in the Worthington Cup clash with Blackburn last September.

Rudonja's return was subsequently hampered by an ankle injury in a reserve team game.

He is currently back home in Slovenia to consider his future.

Claridge said: "Mladen is a super lad and I've absolutely no problems with him at all.

"He's been a model professional but it's not happened for him over here."

"He hasn't seemed to have been suited by the game over here. Perhaps he's a little lightweight."
