DETECTIVES are appealing for witnesses after a robber got away with several hundred pounds in coins in an early morning raid in Eastleigh town centre.

The raider walked into The Altis Snooker and Social Club in the High Street and tied up a 34-year-old woman who was working on the premises before taking the cash between 5.30 and 6am yesterday.

Police say the member of staff was shaken but unhurt by her ordeal.

Officers believe the raider entered the 24-hour club by the front door from the High Street and say he would have been carrying something when he left the premises.

He is de-scribed as white and 6ft 3in tall. He was wearing a "Benny-style" woolly hat, scarf, waist- length black padded jacket and black trousers.

Detective Sergeant Mark Ashthorpe of Eastleigh CID said: "It is possible that people in the vicinity may have seen a man acting suspiciously.

"If anyone has information on this matter we would like them to contact us right away."

Detectives are also keen to hear from anyone who may have been asked to change a large quantity of coins since yesterday morning.

Anyone who can help is asked to contact Eastleigh CID on 0845 045 4545.
