LATEST figures show car crime in Southampton is down on last year.
Statistics released as part of the Daily Echo-backed Operation Cobra car crime initiative show there had been 3,403 thefts from motor vehicles across the city up to the end of November.
In the same period last year there were 3,479 recorded incidents.
But thefts of cars and other vehicles have risen slightly from 1,602 incidents recorded up until the end of November in 1999, compared with 1,637 this year.
In November, a total of 310 thefts from vehicles was reported to police across the Southampton city centre, Portswood, Shirley and Bitterne police areas.
A total of 169 vehicles were actually stolen in the same period.
