ANDOVER Gym Club's senior mixed gym team did themselves proud when they made their international debut - representing Great Britain at the recent third European Team Championships in Birmingham.
The national panel congratulated the Andover squad, who train at the Salto Centre in Charlton, on their efforts in such a high standard competition, especially after last minute changes to some of the apparatus saw the 10-strong Andover squad competing on a tumble track which was nothing like any of them had ever encountered before. The track was so hard that many of the local gymnasts were injured - and some even ended up in plaster!
The Andover squad eventually finished in 12th place out of the 18 teams that took part, and are already preparing for the next Euro Championships to be held in Paris in 2002.
