CHRISTMAS came early for the Wessex Cancer Trust, thanks to a festive open evening at a Fair Oak garden centre.

Staff gave their time free of charge to throw open the doors of Arturi's Garden Centre in Allington Lane for the event - organised by Mary Brown.

And customers flocked in to enjoy music from the Brownies, Guides and Rainbow Singers, plus the 14th Eastleigh Scout and Guide Band, The Spitfires, and other attractions.

The garden centre ran a raffle as its contribution, besides handing over ten per cent of the evening's takings from its various departments.

Wessex Cancer Trust's Eastleigh and Chandler's Ford group ran its own stall and a Santa Claus grotto.

Garden centre proprietor Graham Arturi said: "We've been doing this for at least five years and this is the most popular one we have ever done."

Bill Pidgeon of the trust's Eastleigh and Chandler's Ford group said: "We are very pleased with the support."
