WESTMINSTER Warriors are the latest unbeaten London side to come to grief against the dynamic Solent Under-20 squad, who are now in the last four of basketball's National Cup.

Coach Phil Hield described Stars' second-quarter display as the best he had seen from the squad. Warriors, he said, were "blown away" en route to a stunning 88-66 victory.

Rob McDonald, whose 24-point haul included five three-pointers, managed to outscore prolific team-mates David Mackay (14) and Clayton Milner (16). Gary Hughes quietly delivered his usual high-quality contribution of 14 points and 13 rebounds and newcomer Gerry Glasspool (11) had his best points return so far.

Solent scorers: Rob McDonald 24, Clayton Milner 16, David McKay 14, Gary Hughes 14, Gerry Glass-pool 11, Ryan Payne 4, Anthony Rutter 3, Grant Smith 2.

l Solent's Under-18s had been hoping for a National Cup run to get a sight of the London and Northern opponents they plan to meet in the play-offs.

But careless turnovers, poor offensive rebounding and poor offensive execution lost Stars what assistant coach Kelvin Allen described as a "very winnable game" as they slumped 74-61 at Broxbourne Bulls.

Solent scorers: Graham Philpot 16, Gavin Hart 13, David Ewen 13, Stuart Rutter 8, Paul Young 7, James Davies 4.

l Oliver Rutter and Richard Smithson kept their cool to guide Stars' cadets to an 86-81 National Cup success over a Brighton Bears side who were their own worst enemies.

Brighton controlled the first quarter but they committed unnecessary fouls and were forced to bench their better players.

In the last quarter, four Bears players fouled out, leaving Stars to wrap up victory.

Solent scorers: Oliver Rutter 28, Richard Smithson 14, Stuart Ibbs 10, Mark Blackwood 8, Paul Loosemore 8, James Swift 7, Mark Green 6, Barry Fitzgerald 3, Craig Dawson 2.

l Stars' Under-13s upped the intensity after a slow start to beat Southampton Trailbla-zers 54-34 with some of their best basketball of the season.

The unstoppable Lawrence Young scored 24 points and guard Robert Alcock did a great job running the offence in this National Passerelle League fixture.

Solent scorers: Lawrence Young 24, Nicholas Edwards 10, Greg King 8, Tom House 5, Ryan Vaughan 4, Robert Alcock 2, Ben Urquhart 1.
