Whitchurch 0, Hamble 1 Whitchurch managed yet again to throw away a match they should have won after gifting the opposition the JWL points with the softest of goals for the second game in succession at Longmeadow last Saturday (reports Derek Hack). John Mas and Graham Knight's side played some of their best football of the season but were unable to put the ball in the net. "On chances it should have ended up 8-2 to us," said a frustrated Mas afterwards. "I was disappointed, we had so many chances but failed to take any of them." Andy Shore Garage sponsored Whitchurch did everything but score with Paul Clarkson, Gary Blenkarn and Steve Caswell all missing excellent chances in a goal-less first half. It was much the same in the second and Chris Edmunds in the home goal hardly had a shot worthy of the name to save but with just over an hour gone disaster struck, Edmunds' clearance went straight to a Hamble player on the edge of the box and he fired home the only goal of the game. Whitchurch (4-4-2): Edmunds; Clayson, Shaughnessy, Hughes, Kington; Dinham, Winterbourne, Kirk, Caswell; Clarkson, Blenkarn. Subs: Marriner (for Caswell 85 mins), Rolfe, Dodds (not used).

Whitchurch 0, Thatcham 1 Whitchurch suffered yet another odd goal defeat in the JWL on Tuesday night after losing to a controversial penalty which came on the stroke of half time "We just can't score goals," lamented Whitchurch boss John Mas. "It was the same as last Saturday. We had enough chances and over the 90 minutes I thought we did enough for a result. I thought the penalty a bit harsh." It came just before the break when Whitchurch had three players on the goal-line and a shot struck defender Tom Clayson on the hand. "When I asked the referee about it he said that the hand had struck the ball, which is a sending off, but the referee only booked him," explained Mas. The Whitchurch manager added they had a better side than last season and they were playing well but the ball was not running for them in front of goal. "It's not for the want of trying," Mas said. Whitchurch will be hoping for better fortunes this Saturday when they entertain county league side Aldermaston in the North Hants Senior Cup. They are also at home to Totton next Tuesday in the Russell-Cotes Cup. Whitchurch (4-4-2): Edmunds; Clayson, Shaughnessy, Dodds, Knight (K); Dinham, Kirk, Winterbourne, Caswell; Blankarn, Soper-Dyer. Subs: Ian Knight (for Dodds 72 mins), Cann (for Edmunds 85 mins).
