A 69th-minute Ricky Fernandez goal shot Eastleigh through to the second round of the Russell Cotes Cup with a 1-0 win at Fareham last night.

Fareham's ex-England winger Mark Chamberlain forced a superb tip-over from Adam Gage in the first half, but Town's Lee Webber was the busier keeper throughout. Fareham had heated appeals for a late penalty turned down when substitute Paul Brown was involved in a collision with Gage.
