Basingstoke face almost certainly their most difficult test to date when they travel to Penzance/Newlyn for tomorrow's National League 3 South game.

Confidence at Basingstoke must be suffering following defeat in the opening two league fixtures and last week's humiliating Tetley's Bitter Cup reverse at Old Colfeians. So the visit to Cornwall will be a stiff test of their character.

Havant, meanwhile, have made a totally contrasting start with victories in both their league games and two Tetley's Cup successes. They travel to Norwich for a London 1 fixture with Steve Boydell, Dave Jones and Matt Kell all returning to action.

Although victory at Norwich is of major importance, Havant will also have half an eye on Basingstoke's match as they entertain Penzance in the cup next week.

Winchester are at home to Sutton & Epsom in this league and will be seeking success after narrowly losing the only other game they have so far managed to play.

Tottonians and United Services are both unbeaten after three games in London 4 South West and they meet at Totton College.

Tottonians are second, ahead of Services on scoring difference, and they have Andy Harding and Andy Martin making their league debuts. Chris Smith returns at centre and that allows Micky Johnson to revert to one wing, while Steve Broomfield plays on the other.

Portsmouth currently lead London 3 South West and will be looking to extend their unbeaten start to the season when they visit the also undefeated University Vandals. Just one change to the Portsmouth side sees John Garratt recalled at prop, although there are injury doubts about Greg Hodgkiss and Nick Ettery.

Trojans have made a tremendous start, although they have been booted out of the Intermediate Cup for fielding an ineligible player and may also be docked league points for the same offence. They host Sandown & Shanklin tomorrow and have several alterations to the side that won at Petersfield. Kevin Baker and Andy Morris play in the front-row, while Steve LeBas reverts to flanker and Alistair Brewster is required at full-back.

Romsey also entertain Isle of Wight opposition in Ventnor and will be seeking a repeat of last week's resounding win at Sandown. Unsurprisingly, Romsey have named an unchanged team.

Hamble will be looking to recover from the mauling they received from Farnborough last week when they travel to New Milton. The big New Zealander, Roger Castello, plays at No8, while another unfamiliar name in the Hamble team is Mike Eriksen at fly-half.

Southampton have an incredibly long injury list that partially explains the number of debutants in their team for the friendly away to Basingstoke II. The other reason is the opportunity to look at fresh faces in what is certain to be a competitive match. Ian Budd, Mike O'Leary, Jason Glister and Tony Morgan are the debutants in question.
