A THIRD key player has joined AFC Totton's long-term injury list ahead of tomorrow's FA Cup second qualifying round trip to Brighton-based outfit Saltdean.

Stand-in skipper Sean New (pictured) faces months on the sidelines with a badly twisted knee - a painful battle scar of Tuesday's ill-tempered Jewson Wessex League 2-2 draw with champions Wimborne.

It's another bitter blow for the Stags who have already lost regular captain Kevin Murphy and Martin Cornwall to serious injury and manager Ian Robinson confessed: "We've got real problems now with three of them out."

Totton will be bidding for a repeat success in Brighton having already dumped out Saltdean's Sussex League Division 1 neighbours Whitehawk in the preliminary round.

Joint-manager Mick Jenkins believes Havant & Waterlooville need just one good result to get back on track after recent hiccups in the Dr Martens Premier Division - and hopefully that will come at Hellenic Premier League side Carterton tomorrow.

"It's a potential banana skin but we need to go there, do well and boost our confidence," he said. "We haven't become a bad side but we lost a bit of shape at Moor Green last Saturday particularly when we lost Matt Jones and Gary MacDonald to injury."

Jones has recovered from a whack on the head but skipper MacDonald is still having intensive treatment on a pulled groin.

Giant goalkeeper Colin Matthews is suspended for Newport's tie at Fisher after being red-carded against Bashley in the last round for handling outside the area.

In his absence, the gloves will be handed to either his understudy Ian Lloyd or new signing Joe McCormack who has rejoined the club from Cowes Sports.

Matthews scored the winner direct from a drop kick in Tuesday's 1-0 Eastern Division success at Langney having already pulled off a couple of blinding saves. "It's a blow that Colin can't play tomorrow, but I'd rather lose him for the FA Cup than a league game," admitted promotion-seeking manager Tony Mount.

The last time Basingstoke locked horns with Bath City in the FA Cup, they steamed all the way to the second round proper taking the scalp of John Gregory's Wycombe Wanderers along the way.

Three years later Stoke are in the mood for a repeat performance after a solid start to their Ryman Premier Division campaign which has brought just one defeat in nine games.

Barrie Keeley is unavailable for the Camrose clash and Lee Chudy has a slight knock. The transfer-listed Taffy Richardson returns to the squad. Stoke frontman Tim Sills has joined Staines on a month's loan.

Salisbury City have named 43-year-old former Saint Kevin Bond in their Clevedon-bound squad.

The Southampton-based defender replaced the injured Roger Emms for last 15 minutes of last Saturday's 1-0 DML Premier Division win at Worcester which lifted Whites to fourth. Tyronne Bowers also went off with a knock that day but both he and Emms should be fit to face Clevedon for a third time this season. Honours have been even in league action, with both sides triumphant on home territory. Fleet Town entertain Thatcham in an all-JWL clash, while Jim Greenwood's Newbury face a stiff task at Gravesend & Northfleet.

l Bashley can motor into pole position in Dr Martens Eastern Division by defeating Witney at the Recreation Ground tomorrow.

With Baldock, Chelmsford and Stamford all involved in FA Cup action, a victory would lift the unbeaten Foresters from fourth to first.

Midfielder Jimmy Anderson faces a late fitness test after limping off with a kicked calf in the 1-0 midweek win at Erith where he scored the winning goal.

"There can be no bigger incentive than knowing that if we win tomorrow we go top," said assistant manager Trevor Senior.
