FRIENDS and supporters of Oakhaven Hospice met to celebrate the completion of its £350,000 refurbishment project.

The eight-bed hospice in Lymington, which serves a population of nearly 100,000 in the south-eastern New Forest, has been redesigned to meet new EU regulations.

The Bishop of Winchester, the Rt Rev Michael Scott-Joynt, rededicated the building, and Hampshire's Lord Lieutenant, Mary Fagan, and Oakhaven's founder, Phoebe Coates, unveiled a commemorative plaque.

Oakhaven Trust chairman David Proudlove thanked everyone who had contributed towards the project, which took 16 weeks to complete.

"This hospice is an ongoing endeavour.

"The strength of commitment over the last ten years has created something beyond measure or praise for this community," he said.
