CHILDREN at a Southampton school needed no second bidding to wish a happy retirement to their administration officer.

Jean Andrews left St John's Infant and Nursery School in Castle Way before Easter after 28 years.

Pupils gave her a surprise presentation at the final assembly and youngsters from Year 2 sang a song they had learned especially for the occasion.

Learning support assistant Sally Bensley said Mrs Andrews, who lives in Lordshill, Southampton, had been thrilled with her send-off. She added: "It was really lovely. One of the parents - who is also an ex-pupil - stood up and said how much everyone was going to miss her.

"She gave so much to so many people. We thought it would be a nice tribute to her."
